Description
Two centuries after his death, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart remains one of the most compelling figures in the music history due to the extraordinary quality of the music he wrote and to the numerous legends which swirled about him from childhood onward. This course is a critical examination of Mozart's life and works. Using biographies, Mozart's own letters, and evidence in the music itself, we will explore how the image of a divinely-inspired child genius arose during his lifetime, and how that image continued to shape his reputation for later generations of listeners, including our own.
