Grieving for Uvalde, Uniting in Community
A Special Message from President Anderson

Trinity Community,

I write this afternoon to share a video message about the shootings at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, less than 90 miles away from our campus.

As more details about these events come to light, we are learning and grieving alongside the nation. This morning, the University learned that third-grade Robb Elementary teacher Irma Garcia was named as one of the heroic teachers who lost her life. Irma was a 2019 recipient of the Trinity Prize for Excellence in Education. One colleague who nominated her wrote, “Mrs. Garcia’s knowledge of teaching is rivaled only by her advocacy for her students. She has a true talent for engaging all students in meaningful learning while establishing a loving and supportive classroom community. Her transformative approach means that even her most struggling students excel academically and with a renewed vision of education.”

May we all have a renewed vision of education, today and every day. Keep the faith that education—and community—will be what unite us in pushing for solutions to this persistent problem.

Sincerely,

Danny Anderson
President
