Alert: Commencement Weather Update
Keep Up-To-Date On Commencement Plans
Wednesday, May 19, 2021

Updated: Friday, May 21, 2021

After much review and deliberation, we have decided to proceed with our original plans for undergraduate Commencement ceremonies at 8 am and 11 am tomorrow in Trinity University Stadium.

While we do not anticipate severe weather, some rain showers are possible. Please dress accordingly, and allow extra time for safe travel to and from the events.

Should weather conditions deteriorate in the morning, we will attempt to delay the start of ceremonies before making any decision to cancel. Further instructions will be provided on-site via public address, Trinalert, and TUPD, in accordance with NCAA guidelines governing outdoor sporting events.

Congratulations to all our graduates and their families. Like you, we will be wishing and praying for good weather tomorrow!

We remain optimistic and committed to our primary plans for undergraduate Commencement ceremonies on Saturday morning in the Trinity University Stadium, rain or shine. However, it is possible that severe weather could prevent us from holding these events outdoors.

Rather than face the possibility of canceling Commencement, we have developed an alternative plan out of an abundance of caution. If - and only if - severe weather conditions are likely for Saturday morning, we will move undergraduate Commencement ceremonies to Laurie Auditorium. We will make this call at noon on Friday, May 21 to allow time for transitioning events.

Unfortunately, due to occupancy restrictions in Laurie and the projected size of the audiences, parents will be asked to view the event via a live stream at designated on-campus locations or off-campus via Tiger NetworkGraduating seniors will be joined by faculty and University leadership in Laurie Auditorium for the undergraduate Commencement ceremonies. There will be no change to Graduate ceremonies, given the small size of the event.

We will only activate our rain plan in the event of severe weather. Currently, forecasts suggest such threats are more likely to occur in the afternoon, after our outdoor ceremonies are completed, though participants in the outdoor events should be prepared for the possibility of rain.

Please check email, this website, and Trinity’s social media at noon on Friday, May 21 for a final determination and further instructions. Please consider signing up for TrinAlert, if you have not already, to receive notifications regarding Commencement as well.
