March 4-15: Women in Jazz

This month on the Jazz Break at Noon, KRTU celebrates Women's History Month while highlighting some of the historical and current contributions from leading artists in jazz and improvised music. We'll also ask for listener requests and present core tracks from our extensive collection during the 2024 Spring Membership Drive.

Mar 4: The Harpists

Adele Girard, Dorothy Ashby, Brandee Younger, Alice Coltrane, and other artists have introduced the ancient and rare instrument to jazz since the turn of the twentieth century. Today, we'll hear tracks that represent the harp's place in improvised music.

Mar 5-8: Drummers and Percussionists

Terri Lyne Carrington, Allison Miller, Cindy Blackman Santana, and Susie Ibarra all bring their own original and unique style to the drum set and auxiliary percussion. This week we'll hear selections from these drum masters, and more.

Mar 11-15: New Releases in 2024

Saxophonists Amanda Gardier, Kirsten Edkins, and Melissa Aldana, bassist Linda May Han Oh, and pianists Satoko Fujii and Angelica Sanchez all have new releases for us to explore in 2024.
