Sonny Rollins and Co. (Part 2)
We continue our birthday celebration this week of tenor saxophone titan Sonny Rollins, with selections from many of the live recordings he's made since 1957's "A Night at the Village Vanguard." Rollins was born September 7, 1930, in New York City, and is a towering figure in jazz, standing for over seventy years as one of the artform's leading improvisers and composers.

The Many Sides of Chico Hamilton
Born Foreststorn Hamilton on September 20, 1921, in Los Angeles, CA., drummer and bandleader Chico Hamilton was a multifaceted innovator in jazz beginning as early as 1955, with recordings up to 2013. This week, we'll focus on Chico as a bandleader, including selections from the complete Pacific Jazz recordings of the Chico Hamilton Quintet, with groups featuring Gerry Mulligan, Fred Katz, Paul Horn, and Eric Dolphy.

San Antonio's 40th Annual Jazz'SAlive Festival
This year, the San Antonio Parks Foundation presents the 40th Annual Jazz'SAlive festival on September 29-30 at the new downtown location in Civic Park at Hemisfair. National artists Kirk Whalum, BIg Sam's Funky Nation, and Jackie Venson will perform on select stages, with local artist performances including pianist Aaron Prado with Azul Barrientos, the Jazz Protagonists, the St Mary's University Jazz Orchestra, and more. This week on the Jazz Break at Noon, we'll hear music and interviews from some of the artists performing at this year's festival for the grand opening at Civic Park.
