Diane Smith, Ph.D.
- Herndon Professor of Geology , Geosciences
I grew up in rural Minnesota and attended Carleton College where I discovered geology. I continued my education at Rice University where I worked on volcanic deposits from Mount St. Helens and other volcanoes in the southern Washington Cascades. After a short stint in the oil industry, I came to Trinity University in 1984 and have cherished the opportunity to educate undergraduates in the fields of geology I love -- minerals, volcanoes, and plate tectonics.
