• Jessica Halonen teaches beginning through advanced level drawing and painting courses as well as design and composition. Professor Halonen received a MFA in Painting in 1999 from Washington University in Saint Louis and a BA from Kalamazoo College.

Halonen’s studio practice incorporates aspects of painting, sculpture and installation. She often uses imagery associated with dysfunctional biological systems to address issues of balance and control in both a personal and a formal sense. Her work is influenced by the design qualities found in the imagery of historical and contemporary medical science, such as pharmaceutical supplies, botanical illustration and textbook diagrams.

Her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions notably at the Austin Museum of Art, Dallas Center for Contemporary Art, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Park Project, Los Angeles and University of Texas at Dallas and University of Texas at San Antonio. Her work is in the permanent collection at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and The Museum of Southeast Texas. From 2000-2001, she was a Core Fellow at the Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts Houston and was recently an artist in residence at the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire.
