Overview
Trinity’s German studies program offers intensive language training and a comprehensive study of German literature, art, culture, politics, and ideas. German Studies majors become fluent in the language and can earn credit toward the major in English-language courses on German topics offered in art history, music, philosophy, political science, and theater.

Candidates for a baccalaureate degree must fulfill the requirements for a major as listed in the courses of study bulletin. The courses of study bulletin is the official source of information regarding degree requirements, academic policies, and academic majors and minors at Trinity University.

Pathways Curriculum

Students must complete the Pathways Curriculum in order to receive a baccalaureate degree. The Pathways Curriculum has six curricular requirements, and three optional elements that provide the foundation in the liberal arts and sciences for all the bachelor's degrees awarded by Trinity University. Through these requirements, students acquire the necessary skills and disciplinary perspectives to navigate complex questions at Trinity and in their post-graduate lives.
Language and Composition
Elementary through advanced language classes, with advanced courses focusing on conversation as well as composition and grammar
Literature and Culture
A study of exemplary works of German literature, theater, and art that illustrate major cultural changes in German history
History
Explore various courses that examine different parts of German history, including shifting borders of modern Europe, modern Germany, the Holocaust, and Western art music.

Student Opportunities
Life beyond the language.
Students can apply for the honors program within the department an can join the Delta Phi Alpha, the National German Honor Society.
Studying abroad in Germany, the world’s fourth largest economy, is made easy by Trinity’s close connections to programs in Berlin and Freiberg.
The German Club offers students a fun and friendly atmosphere to practice speaking German and join in cultural events on campus and in San Antonio.
