Lauren E. Wilks is an assistant professor in Trinity’s Department of Communication. She completed her PhD in media and cultural studies at UW-Madison, where her dissertation research focused on Black womanhood and negotiations of identity within US media industries. More broadly, her scholarship analyzes power, representation, and identity in media. She earned her MA in media studies at UT-Austin, and before that, she spent several years practicing public relations for a range of clients. She often draws upon her non-academic professional experiences to (re-) contextualize her research and teaching. Recently, she co-authored articles in Resonance: The Journal of Sound and Culture and The Moving Image.
