Curriculum and Honor Code

When you arrive at Trinity University, we don’t expect you to have it all figured out. Your first year is designed with exploration in mind.

Before you choose a major, you’ll take courses across schools and departments. This allows you to meet faculty members, participate in real-world experiences, and discover career possibilities you hadn’t known existed.

Year by year, as you grow intellectually and professionally, you can continue to customize your pathway as your goals come into sharper focus.

First Year Experience: Exploring Options

Through the First-Year Experience and Pathways Curriculum, you’ll learn a lot about yourself. As you explore your existing interests, you’ll also uncover new passions.

Your Sophomore Year: Declaring Your Major

During your second year at Trinity, you’ll declare a major in your main area of academic exploration. You’ll work closely with an academic advisor throughout the process. Depending on your career goals, you may choose a second major or minor or even create your own.

Your Junior Year: Deepening Your Expertise 

You may choose to increase the breadth and depth of your studies by choosing electives from across disciplines. This is also an excellent year to pursue experiential opportunities, such as internships, study abroad or summer research.

Your Senior Year: Gaining More Experience

As you enter your final year at Trinity, you’ll likely take advanced classes in your major area of study. It’s also an ideal year to consider more ways to apply what you’ve learned through an internship or research.

Since 2003, Trinity University has had a student-led and student-operated academic integrity system with two core components: the Academic Honor Code and the Honor Council. Due to the hard work of both the student body and the council members, the Trinity Academic Honor Code is now a model for other universities.

The values of honesty, scholarship, and the pursuit of excellence are central to the mission of Trinity University. The Academic Honor Code is the system through which Trinity students uphold these values by assuming individual responsibility for academic integrity.

Honor Code Violations Allegations

Reporting Process

1. If necessary, contact Dr. Kyle Gillette to discuss whether or not you should submit an allegation form.
2. Fill out and submit an allegation form.
3. The Internal Chair of the Academic Honor Council will contact you to verify that your complaint has been received.
4. If the Council accepts the case, you will receive a copy of the letter sent to the accused student informing you of the hearing date and assigned Honor Council members. It will also provide an overview of applicable Honor Council procedures.
5. The following day, an advocate-presenter who functions on behalf of the University will contact you.

Two Notes on Confidentiality

• Maintain the confidentiality of the accused.
• Do not tell the accused about the suspected violation.
  The Honor Council will notify the accused on the sixth class day following the allegation submission, should the Council accept it.
