  Description

Competitive scholarship for college students who plan to pursue careers in government or elsewhere in public service.
The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation—the federal memorial to our thirty-third President—awards merit-based scholarships to college students who plan to pursue careers in government or elsewhere in public service. Truman Scholars receive up to $30,000 for graduate or professional school, participate in leadership development activities, and have special opportunities for internships and employment with the federal government.


  Eligibility

  • All qualified entering and transfer students are considered for academic merit scholarships.
  • A recalculated core GPA*, standardized test scores (optional) and other criteria are used to determine eligibility. 
  • Academic progress is reviewed at the end of each academic year. 
  • Academic scholarships recipients are selected without regard to income.
  • As undergraduates apply to the University, they are automatically considered for our full range of merit scholarships.
  Who is eligible:

Undergraduate junior students who:

  • Are U.S. citizens (or U.S. nationals from American Samoa or the Northern Mariana Islands)
  • Plan to pursue an advanced degree to prepare for a career in public service
  • Are willing to commit three years to public service
  • Have record of public and community service
  • Have demonstrated leadership potential and communication skills
  • Have strong academic record (are in the upper quarter of their class)
  • Have an expressed and demonstrated interest and commitment to being a “change agent”
  • Complete the application, which includes the analysis of a policy issue related to their career interests
  • Are nominated by Trinity University
  Who is not eligible:

Undergraduate first-year, sophomore, and senior and graduate students
