FYE & Academic Advising
Because the First-Year Experience constitutes the foundation of the Pathways curriculum, all first-year students must complete an FYE during their first semester. The FYE melds a discussion-driven seminar with a writing workshop; each half builds on the other reciprocally in that ideas posed in one part of the course are deepened and detailed in the other. As an intensive six-credit-hour course, FYE meets each day of the week: twice in seminar, twice in writing workshop, and once in a plenary session called the Common Learning Experience.
In early May, you'll receive an Academic Interest Survey with information about the different FYE topics, and you'll be asked to rank your top five preferences. Although we cannot guarantee your first choice due to variations in course popularity and the number of available seats, we make a concerted effort to place all students in a course they will enjoy.
Trinity University’s Academic Advising Center is committed to a holistic and developmental advising model focused on your personal and academic curiosity, growth, and success. Early in the summer, you will be assigned a discipline-specific professional academic advisor who will help you get acclimated to your new campus, review general university requirements, Pathways’ curriculum requirements, preliminary major/minor degree requirements, the course bulletin, and the class schedule. Your academic advisor will also teach you how to navigate Trinity’s automated student system and our registration process. Additionally, together you will explore course options and will build your fall course schedule in preparation for registration later in the summer.
Ultimately, your academic advisor will work closely with you to facilitate your seamless journey to graduation during your first few semesters at Trinity until you declare your major (at which point you will be assigned to a major-specific faculty advisor). For questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Advising Coordinator in the Office of Academic Affairs, Dr. Lapetra Bowman, at lbowman@trinity.edu.

New Student Orientation and Move-In
We’re rolling out the maroon carpet for you. There will be faculty, staff, and students ready to help you and fellow new students be successful.
Your Trinity experience starts a week before the beginning of classes with FIRST-YEAR MOVE-IN DAY (FRIDAY, AUGUST 20), when you will get to move into your residence hall and start your year as a Trinity Tiger! You’ll meet your Resident Assistant (RA), who will check you into your room, provide your NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION (NSO) schedule, and serve as a general resource for any questions you may have once you arrive on campus.
Move-in day marks the beginning of NSO and WELCOME WEEK, which are filled with tons of activities to make sure you’re familiar with campus, prepared for classes, and have the chance to participate in some fun and unique social events. In addition, prior to your arrival on campus we'll share a robust Pre-Orientation webpage with campus resource content, a digital engagement kit, a virtual campus tour, and additional resources for your smooth transition to Trinity!
By the time classes begin on Wednesday, August 25, you’ll be settled in, have your schedule organized, and even have met your professors and classmates—what a great way to start the school year!

Residence Halls
While Trinity is traditionally a residential campus community, in light of the COVID-19 global pandemic, we are not requiring any students to live on campus for the 2020-2021 academic year. However, if you are interested in living on campus, you must complete the Residential Life housing form no later than Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 5 p.m. Central Time. This form is an online survey detailing lifestyle preferences such as sleep habits and degree of neatness. This information will potentially be used to match you with a compatible roommate and suitemates (if applicable, pending health guidance).Submitting your housing interest form does not guarantee housing. All students who submit a housing form will be put into a random lottery selection process. You will be notified of your room assignment in early December.
Living on campus helps foster a sense of community and offers a supportive environment in which to study, live, and play. You’ll have University’s outstanding staff, resources, and activities at your fingertips. Residence halls feature suite-style rooms with semi-private bathrooms, a large closet, balconies or outdoor walkways, microwave/mini-fridge combo, wireless internet, cable, and IPTV. Oh, and residents enjoy the benefit of a regular housekeeping service that lightly cleans all rooms and bathrooms every two weeks!
