• Emily Daum has completed three seasons as head coach of the Trinity Tigers men’s and women’s cross country teams.

In 2016, sophomore Molly McCullough ran a personal-best time in the 6k, and finished in 65th place at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships. No other Trinity sophomore had a better finish in school history. McCullough was runner-up at the NCAA Regional. The Tiger women's team placed fifth at the Regional, and the men came in at #8. Both Tiger squads finished second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

The Tigers sent three runners - two men and one woman - to the 2015 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. Trinity's men placed third at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional, and the women came in fourth.

Trinity's men captured the 2015 SCAC Championship, with a perfect score of 15, and the women were runners-up. Coach Daum was elected the SCAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year. She also serves as an assistant coach of Trinity’s track & field teams, focusing on distance runners.

Coach Daum, a 2009 Trinity graduate, had been an assistant cross country coach for the previous two seasons before taking over the helm in July 2014. The Tiger women’s team finished 20th at the 2013 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. Trinity qualified for the event by winning the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championship. It marked the second consecutive Regional title for the Tiger women runners, and fourth overall. Trinity’s men placed ninth at the Regional Championships. In 2012, the Tiger women’ squad finished 12th at the NCAA Championships, for the second-best performance in school history. The Tiger men came in at the No. 32 position, while competing in their first NCAA team championship.

Both Trinity teams captured the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships for two years in a row. The women’s squad amassed a perfect score of 15 points at the 2013 meet, while the men chalked up 28 points.

Coach Daum (formerly Loeffler) earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Trinity in May 2009, with concentrations in marketing and management. Her minor was physical education. As a student-athlete, Coach Daum earned the honor of becoming Trinity’s first male or female All-American in the sport of cross country.

Overall, Coach Daum was a four-time All-American, in cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field. She also was a two-time SCAC Runner of the Year, in both cross country and track & field. The talented Coach Daum spearheaded Tiger cross country to its highest finish in program history. Trinity placed sixth at the 2008 NCAA Championships, while Coach Daum finished No. 17 in the individual competition.

Coach Daum is also a six-time Trinity record-holder in cross country (5k and 6k), indoor track (3,000 meters), and outdoor track (1,500 meters, 3,000 meters, and 3,000-meter steeplechase).

She was the recipient of the NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant Program in 2009, which led to a two-year appointment as Coordinator of Marketing and Promotions, and Assistant to the Director of Athletics, and Sports Information Director.

Coach Daum received a master’s degree in kinesiology in May 2011 from Texas A&M University-San Antonio. That same month, she married Jeremy Daum ’08, a former Trinity cross country standout. The couple welcomed their daughter, Emma, into the world on March 22, 2015.

The two coaches have turned in top performances at numerous road races, including San Antonio’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. Some of Coach Emily Daum's personal bests on the track include a 16:33 in the 5,000m, a 9:41 in the 3,000m, and a 4:34 in the 1,500m.
