Approach to Therapy
My approach to therapy was born from my training in both acceptance and commitment therapy (a mindfulness-based behavioral approach) and psychodynamic therapy (an understanding of relational patterns throughout one’s life). Both rely heavily on reflective listening, radical empathy, and unconditional positive regard. Because of my training in several different therapeutic approaches (the above two, plus cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and motivational interviewing), I can tailor my approach to the needs of each client, and I encourage conversations about therapeutic approach when we meet.
Credentials
B.A. in Psychology (University of Texas at San Antonio), a master’s and doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Clark University). I am a licensed psychologist.
What Feeds My Spirit
Gardening (including houseplants), coloring with my kids, reading fiction, spontaneous dancing in the living room, camping, beaching, being in one room with a bunch of people I love, and traditions.
A Slice from My Journey Thus Far
For three semesters of college I tried to make it as an interior design major (for years I believed this was to be my career) and failed miserably each time. I took a temporary withdrawal, worked at IHOP for a year, and came back to college as a psychology major. When I had to “drop out” of college I felt like a failure. I now know it was exactly what was meant to be.
