Monica Solis-Hoefl, LPC

Professional Interests
Anxiety, first-generation students, grief, identity development, interpersonal difficulties, international students, learning differences, life transitions, motivation, perfectionism, self-esteem and acceptance, student athletes, and trauma.
Approach to Therapy
My therapeutic style is an integrative mix of positive psychodynamic, existential, and behavioral traditions where we co-create an empowering and non-judgmental space through which we can work together to define the goals of counseling, develop insights, practice new skills, and implement valued change. I approach therapy, growth, and healing as a process with the ultimate goals of personal authenticity, creating meaning, and connecting with oneself and others by identifying and deconstructing internalized messages, validating traumas, honoring strengths and resiliency, and advocating with students.
Credentials
B.A. in Political Science and Psychology with a minor in Spanish (Texas A&M University-Kingsville), a master’s in counseling psychology (Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi), and in my final stages of my doctorate in counselor education and supervision (St. Mary’s University). I am a licensed professional counselor and supervisor.
What Feeds My Spirit
Learning, mi familia, and creative expression. I love creating - painting, writing, cooking, DIY and building things. I especially love learning about different cultures - language, traditions, connections, and food.
A Slice from My Journey Thus Far
As a first generation college student it was challenging to navigate through college. I am extremely grateful for being curious, building resilience and courage to find and form relationships with mentors to help support my growth and development.
