• Paul McGinlay has completed 26 seasons as the head coach of the Trinity Tigers men's soccer team.

    Since becoming head coach in 1991, Coach McGinlay has amassed a record of 459-74-29, for a winning percentage of .843 over 26 seasons. He is one of the winningest active soccer coaches in the nation, by percentage, in all NCAA Divisions. Coach McGinlay also is in the top-five  in the winning percentage column on the all-time list of NCAA soccer coaches. Respected by his peers, Coach McGinlay has been elected the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Regional Coach of the Year on nine occasions, including the 2014 season.

    Coach McGinlay led the Tigers to the 2003 NCAA Division III National Championship, with a perfect 24-0-0 record. The feat marked the first NCAA Championship - in any division - for a soccer team in the state of Texas. The championship team was inducted into the Trinity University Athletic Hall of Fame in October 2013.

    Trinity has competed in the NCAA Tournament for 15 straight years, and 20 of the last 21, including 2016. The Tigers have entered the postseason event as the top-ranked team in the nation seven times. Trinity was the national runner-up in 2007. Additionally, the Tigers have advanced to the NCAA semifinals three times, and to the quarterfinals on 10 occasions, including the 2015 campaign.

    Coach McGinlay's teams have won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship 19 times, and have chalked up a SCAC record of 215-13-8 (.928). For his efforts, Coach McGinlay has been honored as SCAC Coach of the Year 14 times, including 2016.

    Thirty-one Tigers have earned All-America honors during Coach McGinlay's tenure. Seven players have received Academic All-America honors, along with two NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship accolades. Twenty-five players have been named either SCAC Player of the Year,  Offensive or Defensive Player of the Year, or Newcomer of the Year. Josh Smith was selected as the NSCAA Division III National Player of the Year in 2003, and went on to a pro soccer career. Tom Carwile, a current Trinity assistant coach, was elected the 2015 Defender of the Year by D3soccer.com.

    Former Tiger women's soccer coach Lance Key '00 played for the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer. He was inducted into the 2015 Trinity University Athletic Hall of Fame, along with former All-America teammate Scott Mury '00. Two former Trinity players, Matt Cardone and Victor Araujo, are current members of the United Soccer League (USL) franchise team San Antonio FC.

    Trinity's soccer field was renovated and renamed the Paul McGinlay Soccer Field, in Coach McGinlay's honor. A special dedication ceremony was held in September 2011. The playing surface was enhanced with new turf, and the grandstands were expanded to accommodate 1,500 spectators. The Isom Memorial was named after the late Tiger men's soccer standout Timothy (Tito) Isom, who graduated in 1998. The 14-foot red-brick facility is used for announcing, scorekeeping, video recording, and live streaming of Trinity men's and women's soccer games. Covered bench areas are located in the facility, as well.

    Prior to coming to the Trinity campus, Coach McGinlay was an assistant men's soccer coach at the College of Wooster (OH). He holds a United State Soccer Federation "A" License, and an Advanced Diploma from the NSCAA.

    A native of Corby, England, Coach McGinlay is married to a 1992 Trinity graduate, the former Whitney Newman. The couple has a daughter, Claire (age 14), and son, Dylan (12).
