The Best of STJP 15 Years of Local Legends
Join us as we journey through the rich tapestry of the South Texas Jazz Project. Founded in 2009, STJP highlights the work of local musicians and their legacies. We'll delve into the archives, reliving unforgettable episodes filled with exclusive interviews, performances, and stories that have shaped this beloved program and the vibrant regional jazz scene it celebrates. Highlights include 1930s San Antonio jazz, the life and music of Eddie Durham, guitarist Jackie King, the Westside Sound, saxophonist Spot Barnett, pianist John Sheridan, and more. This week, we celebrate 15 years of the South Texas Jazz Project on KRTU’s Jazz Break at Noon.

Immerse yourself in the energy and excitement of live jazz as we revisit 15 years of captivating performances captured by the South Texas Jazz Project. This 5-part series brings you front-row access to memorable local concerts, intimate club dates, and special member-only events that showcase the vibrant tapestry of live jazz in San Antonio and the surrounding region - as featured on the South Texas Jazz Project. Our special feature will conclude on Friday, September 20th, with a special birthday broadcast in honor of trumpeter, bandleader, and storyteller Jim Cullum Jr.

40 Years of JazzSAlive
This year, the San Antonio Parks Foundation presents the 41st Annual Jazz'SAlive festival on September 27-28, returning to its new downtown location in Civic Park at Hemisfair. National artists Patrice Rushen and the Lao Tizer Band will perform on select stages, along with local artist performances including Jose Amador and Terra Nova, The Catching Daylight Sextet, vocalist Kate Kortum, The Foreign Arm, The Toro Flores Quintet, The St. Mary's University Jazz Orchestra, the Dirty River Orchestra, and more. This week on the Jazz Break at Noon, we'll hear music and interviews from some of the artists performing at this year's festival and revisit the music of past Jazz'SAlive artists since 1984.

This week on the Jazz Break at Noon, we delve into the rich history of Afro-Latin Jazz, exploring its diverse styles and regional variations, and celebrating the legendary artists who have shaped its legacy, past and present. Join us as we embark on a vibrant journey through the captivating world of Afro-Latin rhythms, the Cubop sound, Brazilian jazz, and more.
