$25 Million Alvarez Gift Transforms Trinity University’s Arts and Humanities
Alvarez family’s donation renames the school and expands scholarships, faculty support, and student opportunities
Trinity University received a $25 million donation from the family of late philanthropist and businessman Carlos Alvarez, founder of The Gambrinus Company. The gift will fund scholarships, faculty endowments, and research across nine arts and humanities departments and will rename the school as the Carlos Alvarez School of Arts and Humanities.
University officials said the investment will expand opportunities for students through internships, study abroad, and undergraduate research, reinforcing Trinity’s commitment to a well-rounded liberal arts education and honoring Alvarez’s long-standing support for education and cultural advancement in San Antonio.
