Meet Kathryn Detweiler ’25, a marketing major with a sport management minor from Goshen, Indiana, who will graduate from Trinity University this spring.
Kathryn transferred to Trinity in her junior year because she was looking for a school that fulfilled her athletically, academically, and socially. “When I visited campus, I fell in love with Trinity and the city of San Antonio,” she says. “I instantly felt welcomed meeting my coaches, teammates, and professors.”
At Trinity, Kathryn competed on the women’s varsity volleyball team, but her impact reached far beyond the court. She was the vice president of events for Trinity’s American Marketing Association (AMA) chapter, a member of Gamma Chi Delta, and an intern at Trinity’s Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing as a Street Team member. Kathryn also had the unique opportunity of studying abroad in Vietnam during the summer of 2024, where she experienced the culture and had an internship, an immersion she describes as both eye-opening and empowering.
Kathryn chose to major in marketing because she’s drawn to how dynamic and ever-evolving the field is. It pairs perfectly with her passion for sports, which inspired her to minor in sport management. “I want to continue to push the power that sports have to create community and character,” Kathryn says. After graduation, Kathryn wants to work for a sports organization doing sports marketing.
It’s hard for Kathryn to choose her favorite memory at Trinity, but if she had to choose, it would be the 10-day trip to North Macedonia that she did with her teammates, professors, and alumni during spring break in 2024. During this trip, they played alongside North Macedonian volleyball teams and coaches to learn and share the structure and culture behind the sport.
Among the many professors who shaped her journey, Kathryn highlights business administration professor Jacob Tingle ’95, Ed.D. “He really pushed me to pursue my passion for sports through all kinds of opportunities and networks. His guidance and passion for his students' success are undeniable, and I could not be more thankful to have had him as a professor,” she adds.
Students like Kathryn, who make the most of every opportunity presented to them on the court, in the classroom, and around the world, exemplify what the Trinity experience is all about. Kathryn’s passion, leadership, and drive have left a lasting mark on Trinity, and she’ll bring that same energy to thrive in the world of sports marketing.
