Adjusting Recruitment Efforts in a Changing Environment
The Office of Admissions is bringing the college search to future Tigers—virtually!

During the springtime, you can generally count on a few things happening on campus: mountain laurels bloom, pollen falls from trees, students rush to class, and excited future Tigers visit the Office of Admissions during their college search. Generally, admitted students come to campus for an Admitted Tiger Day, to get their financial aid and enrollment questions answered in person, connect with current and fellow admitted students over lunch in Mabee, and meet in small groups with a faculty member from their area of interest. And, usually, high school sophomores and juniors take advantage of their days off during spring break to explore Trinity, enjoying a student-led campus tour and an information session led by an admissions counselor.

In so many ways, spring 2020 looks different than usual. The Office of Admissions is closed to visitors, and our on-campus visit programs have been suspended, so prospective students are navigating the college search process in a very different manner. Nevertheless, it’s more important than ever for us to illuminate Trinity's unique characteristics by connecting prospective students virtually with faculty, staff, students, and our campus. That’s why, in true Trinity fashion, we pivoted quickly, harnessed the creativity of our talented staff, and worked tirelessly to make sure students have the information and support they need to explore campus, learn about our academic offerings, and get their questions answered. Choosing a college is an important decision, and we are as committed as ever to providing students with everything they need to know, every step of the way.

At gotu.us/forwardTUgether, we’re offering a full suite of virtual visit experiences. Virtually everything prospective students could do on campus, they can now do virtually (except for lunch at Mabee).

Admitted Students and their families can connect online with fellow admitted students, admissions and financial aid staff members, and faculty. In addition to daily Tiger Talks and one-on-one opportunities, students can also join us for these programs:

  • Virtual Admitted Tiger Days: Admitted students and their families learn about the transition to Trinity, academic offerings, and more about what it's like to be a Trinity student. Plus, students will meet in smaller groups to learn more about various extracurricular opportunities and specific student experiences at Trinity. Trinity hosted its first virtual Admitted Tiger Day on Thursday, April 16, and will host a second on Thursday, April 23.
  • Virtual Faculty Chats: On Saturday, April 18, admitted students personally connected with faculty and fellow admitted students in their desired academic disciplines in interactive sessions.

Younger students and their families are our minds, as well, and Trinity is committed to providing the flexibility and resources for students who are just starting their college search. Online, students can watch a 360º Video Campus Tour, take a virtual tour or attend an information session. Offered most weekdays at 11 a.m. and hosted by an admissions counselor, these sessions provide an opportunity to discover the same information students would hear when visiting Trinity. Students can also submit questions to be answered by the counselor.

In the weeks and months ahead, we plan to expand virtual programming to provide these students with more information and ways to connect, so that when applications open during the summer, students will be more than ready to apply.

Although the current situation has posed unprecedented challenges, the Division of Enrollment Management is grateful for the leadership, clarity of commitment, faculty and staff support, and resources that enable us to adjust to the changing times and deliver the support that our future Tigers need to make informed decisions.
