Amy Stone’s Research on LGBTQ+ Homelessness in San Antonio Published in San Antonio Report
Stone’s research details housing instability and persistent barriers to health care for the LGBTQ+ community

Amy L. Stone, Ph.D., Trinity University professor of sociology and anthropology, was interviewed by the San Antonio Report over findings from a community survey they conducted with the Strengthening Colors of Pride coalition and the Pride Center San Antonio on LGBTQ+ homelessness and access to health care in the San Antonio area. The study surveyed 685 LGBTQ+ residents between September 2024 and January 2025. Results showed that 28% had experienced homelessness, an increase from 18% in 2020, and 6% were unhoused within the past year. The study also found that one in three respondents lacked access to needed health care, about half of those with insurance still struggled with costs, and nearly a quarter of transgender participants reported discrimination or mistreatment by medical providers. Read the full story here
