“A New Business Model for People and Nature”
Thursday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m.
Laurie Auditorium, Trinity University
Trinity University’s Distinguished Scientists Lecture Series, in partnership with Trinity University Press, presents Gretchen C. Daily with a lecture titled "A New Business Model for People and Nature.” The lecture will take place on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7:30 p.m.
Daily will describe a powerful, new approach to valuing nature—and the risks and devastating costs of its loss—through compelling stories from all over the world. The approach is being scaled by key governments, investors, businesses, and communities to accelerate a deep transformation to an ecological civilization. From coastal resilience to mental health, water security and livable cities, nature is key.
She will also discuss her books with photographer Charles Katz, Jr.: The Power of Trees and One Tree - Un árbol único, both published by Trinity University Press. An ecologist by training, Daily's research is focused on quantifying human dependence and impacts on nature for security, health, and prosperity. The goal of the Natural Capital Project is to integrate the values of nature into policy, finance, and management globally.
Daily is the Bing Professor of Environmental Science at Stanford University, senior fellow in the Stanford Woods Institute, director of the Center for Conservation Biology, and co-founder and faculty director of the Natural Capital Project. She is also a fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and has received numerous international honors for her work, including the Blue Planet Prize in 2017.
The lecture is free and open to the public, and no reservations or tickets are required. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. A book signing will follow.
