KRTU Welcomes Bria Woods as the New Content Director
Continuing KRTU’s legacy of excellence on the airwaves…

Bria Woods, KRTU’s New Content Director

The team at KRTU is excited to welcome Bria Woods as our new Content Director beginning February 24, 2025! A Trinity University alumna (Class of 2016), Bria brings a deep passion for jazz and over a decade of experience in multimedia storytelling, community engagement, and broadcasting.

Bria’s journey with KRTU began over 11 years ago as a radio host, cultivating a deep appreciation for communication, public media, and the diverse genres of jazz. She later expanded her expertise into journalism, media arts, and public speaking while earning a master’s degree in Multimedia Broadcast and Journalism from the University of Westminster in London. Throughout her career, she has remained dedicated to connecting with audiences, crafting compelling narratives, and using media as a tool for education and immersive experiences.

As Content Director, Bria will play a key role in shaping KRTU’s programming and deepening our connection with our listeners and the San Antonio community. In addition to overseeing our content, she will be working with interns and students, teaching a course in the Communication Department, further contributing to KRTU's mission of education. Her leadership and creative vision will help us continue to be at the forefront of Where Music Meets Community.

"I am thrilled to have Bria join the KRTU team as our new Content Director! Bria's journey from student intern and volunteer host to this pivotal role exemplifies her unwavering passion for music and her deep commitment to community radio. Over the years, she has consistently demonstrated her dedication to jazz music, community engagement, and education, which aligns perfectly with KRTU's mission. I look forward to working with Bria and witnessing all she will do as she fosters connections within our community through her vibrant energy and creativity."

Community Impact

Beyond the airwaves, Bria has made a significant impact as a photographer, artist, and public speaker, using her work to tell powerful stories that inspire and engage. Her photography has been featured in BBC.com, Trinity University Magazine, St. Mary’s University Magazine, Edible SA Magazine, and even on a billboard for Essence Prep School. She was named a finalist in the international photography competition Coronavirus: Two Metres of Separation, hosted by Equal Lens.

Bria’s dedication to visual storytelling extends into documentary projects and exhibitions. Since 2021, she has been developing The Herstory Project, an ongoing multimedia series highlighting women leaders in San Antonio. In 2025 this project will have been exhibited four times, with the third and fourth installments funded by grants from the City of San Antonio. Her work documenting families during the COVID-19 pandemic was exhibited at the Museum of the Coastal Bend, and she was recently commissioned by UTSA’s Department of Gender Studies to create portraits of San Antonio mothers for an anthology tied to Carnegie Mellon University’s Democratizing Racial Justice initiative.

Bria has also shared her voice and expertise on prominent local and regional platforms, including SXSW, TEDx San Antonio, DreamWeek, San Antonio Startup Week, Texas Festival and Events Association, PechaKucha, and San Antonio Report’s City Fest. She was a featured speaker at TPR’s Worth Repeating: Reckoning with Racism, with her speech later published in an anthology highlighting 40 speakers.

"Bria is a forward-thinking storyteller who places humanity at the center of her work. Having worked with her during her time as a KRTU host and as a member of the arts community, I’ve seen firsthand her dedication to making the world see life with greater awareness. Her vision and drive challenge us to look deeper, listen more intently, and engage more meaningfully. She continues carving paths where women in jazz have always existed but were too often overlooked. I am so excited to welcome Bria to KRTU. Working with her will not only make me a better person and a better listener, but it will continuously inspire me to see our mission with greater clarity and purpose."
- Julie Ledet, KRTU Director of Development

Her community outreach continues to bridge communities through storytelling, education, and the arts, and we are honored to have her as part of the KRTU team. With her passion for fostering connection and creating impactful experiences, Bria will undoubtedly inspire both our team and our audience to engage more deeply with the world around us.

Looking Ahead

As Bria Woods steps into her role as Content Director, she brings a forward-thinking vision to KRTU’s programming, ensuring that our station remains at the forefront of jazz and indie music while deepening our connection to the community. With her expertise in storytelling, broadcasting, and community engagement, Bria will oversee the curation and production of KRTU’s flagship programs, mentor and collaborate with our diverse team of on-air hosts, and develop strategic content that enhances the listener experience both on-air and online.

“KRTU is poised for significant growth. We envision a future for KRTU where our diverse and educational content reaches even further into our community and beyond. This means empowering our talented hosts, creating compelling local and historical programs, and elevating KRTU's national presence as a leading voice in jazz and independent music. I'm excited to partner with Bria as our new Content Director, and I'm confident her talents will be pivotal in bringing this vision to life.”
- JJ Lopez, KRTU General Manager

Her leadership will not only uphold KRTU’s tradition of excellence but also expand opportunities for new voices, emerging artists, and innovative programming. Bria is committed to fostering meaningful relationships with listeners, musicians, and local organizations, while also strengthening the voices of our hosts and collaborating with them to create engaging, dynamic content.

“Next year I will celebrate my ten-year class reunion as a Trinity grad which makes the timing of this opportunity beautifully full circle. What joy to return home to Trinity and KRTU on the heels of my tenth year on the air with KRTU, and on the eve of the station's 50th anniversary. I look forward to preserving the quality programming and community engagement we already have and strategically designing new opportunities for growth. And the cherry on top? Getting to work with a team I’ve known since I was 19 years old. There truly is no place like home.”
- Bria Woods, KRTU Content Director

JJ, Monica, and Julie will be working closely with Bria on the administrative side of the station activities and are dedicated to making her transition smooth, rewarding, and fulfilling. Michael Thomas, our Traffic & Production Coordinator, and Albert Salinas, our Communications Operations Manager, will be working with Bria on production and operations to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow. Please join the KRTU team in giving Bria a warm community welcome!
