Naomi Shihab Nye, Poet Laureate and Trinity Alumna, Leads Fredericksburg Workshop
The celebrated poet and professor guided participants in exploring how poems emerge and illuminate everyday life

Trinity University alumna and acclaimed poet Naomi Shihab Nye ’74, former Poetry Foundation Young People’s Poet Laureate, led a generative poetry workshop titled Living in a Poem as part of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) program on Sept. 16. The workshop invited both seasoned and casual writers to explore how poems take shape on the page and how they deepen reflection on daily life.

Nye, a professor at Texas State University, has been a visiting poet worldwide and participated in the inaugural Fredericksburg Book Festival. Her most recent poetry collection, Grace Notes – Poems About Families, continues her lifelong engagement with the themes of family and connection.
