Trinity University has welcomed 13 students as the latest McNair Scholars, part of a prestigious program that prepares participants for doctoral studies through research and related scholarly activities.
Named after the late physicist and Challenger shuttle astronaut Ronald E. McNair and funded by Trinity and a U.S. Department of Education grant, the McNair Scholars Program offers academic counseling, financial aid advising, mentoring, research opportunities, seminars, paid summer internships, and graduate admissions guidance.
“We are fortunate that Trinity recruits so many great students, because this allows us to build a strong McNair Program,” says Kelly Lyons, associate professor of biology and McNair director. “These new students will embark on a one- to three-year journey with the goal of attending graduate school. Best of luck to the new scholars in all that you endeavor this year!”
Since its inception at Trinity in November 2007, the McNair Scholars program has served a total of 138 first-generation, low-income, and/or underrepresented students. The new Scholars who began participation this summer or fall are:
