Trinity Receives Major Gift from Gonzaba Medical Group
Scholarship support will benefit students in Health Care Administration Program

If the years 2020 and 2021 have taught the world anything, it is that healthcare workers are heroes. Now, students at Trinity University hoping to join the healthcare field will have more financial support to pursue their dreams of serving others.

The Dr. Bill Gonzaba Endowed Scholarship for Healthcare Leadership and Innovation in Health Administration Fund will give scholarship support to students at Trinity that are interested in careers in medicine and healthcare. The fund, named after William Gonzaba, M.D., the founder and CEO of the Gonzaba Medical Group, will provide a gift contribution totaling $113,500 to create this permanent endowment.

“I have been blessed that during my lifetime, patients have entrusted me with their health and well-being, first as their trusted doctor then, on a larger scale through Gonzaba Medical Group—providing the highest quality senior care to the communities of San Antonio,” Dr. Bill says. “Now, our partnership with Trinity University allows us to support the community in a new way—to support students entering the field of healthcare.”

Gonzaba Medical Group is a network of seven clinics throughout San Antonio that has earned the Gold Seal from the Joint Commission—the global driver of quality improvement and patient safety in health care Gonzaba Medical Group has also partnered with leaders and organizations in the community, such as the San Antonio City Council members and various nonprofits, to promote better health across the city.

Dr. Bill opened his first clinic in 1960 after growing up and watching his parents and friends struggle because of the lack of access to quality medical care. Now, health care runs in the family. Dr. Bill’s sons, William Thomas (Tom) Gonzaba, M.D., and Greg Gonzaba, M.D., both serve as medical directors at Gonzaba Medical Group, while his sons, George Gonzaba serves as the Director of Facilities, and Francisco (Paco) Gonzaba, received his Master of Science in Health Care Administration from Trinity (class of 2019) and supports Gonzaba Medical Group as the Executive Director of Business Operations.

After more than half a century devoted to the practice of medicine and bringing superior health care closer to home, Dr. Bill hopes his endowment helps enable the next generation of healthcare heroes at Trinity to succeed.
