Trinity University Theatre invites audiences to explore the magic and temptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Nona Shepphard. She is the Associate Director of the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and is the Stieren Guest Artist for the 2016-17 season.
The well-known comedy follows four Athenian lovers as they lose themselves in a wood of mischievous fairies, rustic players and misfired love potions. Everyone pursues each other on the eve of midsummer—a night when anything can happen. Trinity’s production relies on its actors to create the world of the play using physicality, music, and imagination. “I don’t want to tell the audience what to think,” says Shepphard. “The theatre can create spectacle and magic with practically nothing.”
A Midsummer Night’s Dream opens the weekend of Feb.17-19, and will continue Feb. 22-25 in the Stieren Theatre located in the Ruth Taylor Theatre Building. Curtain times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
Ticket prices are $12 for adults; $8 for seniors, faculty, staff, and alumni; and $6 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at tinyurl.com/trinityutheatre and at the theatre box office Monday through Friday from 2-5 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling 210-999-8515 or emailing tutheater@trinity.edu.
