Trinity Theatre to Present 'Into the Woods'
Production showcases musical talent, takes plot and characters from fairy tales

Trinity University Theatre will present Into the Woods, a musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, in November. The production marks the directorial debut of Trinity theatre professor Nathan Stith and will feature a live pit orchestra assembled by music professor James Worman.

The musical features a devious witch, who tasks a childless baker and his wife to procure several strange items in order to lift her curse and start their family. As they journey into the woods, the pair encounters several familiar fairy tale characters who are hoping to fulfill their own wishes—for better or for worse. The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests.

The main characters are taken from "Little Red Riding Hood," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Rapunzel," and "Cinderella," as well as several others. The production has won several Tony Awards, including Best Score and Best Book, and the film adaption received three Academy award and three Golden Globe nominations.

Into the Woods opens the weekend of Nov. 10-12, and will continue Nov. 15-18 in the Stieren Theatre, located in the Ruth Taylor Theatre Building. Curtain times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

Ticket prices are $12 for adults; $8 for seniors, faculty/staff, and alumni; and $6 for students.
