Trinity University Enhances Events Calendar
Strategic Communications and Marketing has launched enhancements to the Trinity University events calendar.

As with the previous calendar, you can visit the University website and select “Events”. This will take you to a list of upcoming events that is searchable and customizable according to date, campus buildings and places, departments, or groups.

Each entry also features a map, a web address, the sponsoring group, and the intended audience.  Not only is the design more visually appealing, it is more user friendly since events can be added to a personal calendar at the click of a mouse.

“Our strategy is to connect the campus,” says Michelle Bartonico, director of Strategic Communications and Marketing. “This is part of strengthening our Trinity network. We also have a vision for Trinity’s off-campus events, e.g. Alumni and Parent National Conference, Policy Maker Breakfast series, to connect with this events calendar to further encourage people to attend an event that interests them - even if it's off-campus.”

The enhanced events calendar is part of a larger strategy to make sure Trinity’s campus events are promoted more widely and attract more attendance.

The improvements are mobile-friendly and can be added to Facebook and Twitter pages. “This is more focused on you and is a hub of information,” Bartonico says. She lauds the work of  Stephanie Enoch, senior manager of web development, and Emily Stumme, web producer and UX designer, for updating the Trinity website.

“This is important for the University,” Stumme says. “It connects everything from T-space, centralizing the same event and dynamically distributing it across the website.”

Another feature is the archiving of all events, so that users can go “back in time” to check event details or look at an associated event photo gallery. People making plans to attend events also can make short links for promotional purposes or to add to their social media channels. Each event will be designated if it will be live streamed on the Tiger Network.

Future phases of calendar enhancements will enable people to gauge interest by posting “I’m interested,” similar to Facebook events, which would add the event to their personal calendars  as well as the ability to invite friends to events you wish to attend. “Students and others will be able to post to their invited friends, ‘You want to go to this?’ to make the platform like a mini-Facebook,” Bartonico says.

Over the course of the year, Bartonico says Trinity will continue soliciting feedback and working with folks around campus to roll out additional features. "Thank you in advance for planning, attending, and connecting the community," she adds.
