Trinity University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Megan Mustain was reappointed to her position in March 2026. The following email about the reappointment was sent to faculty and staff on Monday, March 23, 2026.
Dear Trinity University Faculty and Staff,
We are writing to share that based on President Beasley’s recommendation and its approval by the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Megan Mustain has been reappointed for a five-year term, beginning June 1, 2026.
We are grateful to the faculty and staff members who shared thoughtful feedback through the Administrative Review Oversight Committee (AROC) process. The perspectives offered there were carefully considered as part of a broader evaluation with multiple inputs informing the President’s recommendation and the Board’s endorsement, consistent with Trinity’s commitment to shared governance. Along with the support of the academic deans, we have also contemplated the long-term priorities and needs of Trinity University, including how executive leadership, deans, and faculty can work together to advance academic excellence.
The decision to reappoint Provost Mustain reflects President Beasley and the Board of Trustees’ shared understanding of the University’s strategic priorities. During Provost Mustain’s tenure, she has led or contributed to a number of important initiatives that strengthen the University’s academic mission while also positioning Trinity as a leader among national liberal arts colleges and universities moving forward, including these notable examples:
Strengthening academic quality by implementing a new school and dean model, designed to improve decision-making processes and create more avenues for support of departments and programs.
Partnering with faculty committees to address faculty compensation, resulting in more competitive salaries and the development of a more consistent and reliable methodology for ongoing market adjustments.
Expanding transparency and shared governance in budget planning by strengthening the role of the Budget Advisory Committee and increasing faculty engagement in financial discussions affecting Academic Affairs.
Enhancing faculty hiring and onboarding, introducing clearer, data-informed hiring priorities and stronger support for new faculty through initiatives such as the New Faculty Academy.
Integrating key academic support services, including tutoring, accessibility services, academic coaching, and advising, into a unified Office of Academic Success to better support student achievement.
Guiding Trinity’s transition to the National Liberal Arts Colleges category, contributing to a rise in national rankings from No. 55 to No. 37 while emphasizing mission-aligned metrics such as retention, graduation, and student access.
Supporting historic philanthropic investment in academics, helping secure two of Trinity’s largest gifts to date for the D. R. Semmes School of Science and the Carlos Alvarez School of Arts and Humanities.
All of this work continues. Looking ahead, we remain committed to greater collaboration and cooperation with faculty to ensure Trinity University is well-positioned to respond to emerging needs and opportunities. Together, we will advance enduring excellence in teaching, scholarship, and student success.
Please join us in congratulating Provost Mustain on her reappointment.
Sincerely,
Vanessa B. Beasley, Ph.D.
