Trinity University's Dicke Hall has earned the Wood in Architecture Award and is being celebrated for acknowledging the University's past, present, and future. Designed by Lake Flato Architects, Dicke Hall is a mass timber (MT) building that opened in late September 2022 and is San Antonio's first cross‑laminated timber (CLT) structure.
Dicke Hall was selected as one of nine winners in the 2025 Wood in Architecture Awards, recognized for design excellence, inventive use of wood, sustainability, and market impact. The design pays homage to the legacy of mid-century Texas modernist O'Neil Ford—many campus buildings were originally his—and aligns with his ethos of architecture that harmonizes with its environment. Lake Flato's founders once worked in Ford's office and embraced that heritage in this project.
Dicke Hall is a standout mass timber addition to Trinity University. It blends modern sustainable design with deep respect for the campus's architectural heritage. The building exemplifies energy-efficient, low-carbon construction with thoughtful integration and cost-effective execution.
