What does (or what can) a community of learning look like at Trinity University? This prompt was used during a Lego brick workshop on the final day of New Faculty Orientation. Some groups of new faculty presented models with multiple doors because there are countless entry points into this community. One group purposefully had a single door because from the window you could only see the final destination, but once inside the possibilities were endless. Scroll to see some of the visual models these new faculty groups created.
This group wanted to show that the bridge between communities was the growing and vibrant resources (represented by the trees) available at Trinity. All the miscellaneous bricks in the background are resources waiting to be built or accessed.
This group wanted to illustrate that there are multiple ways into our community of learning. Importantly, while the different schools at Trinity (each represented by a different colored path) have different journeys, they all arrive at the same destination: a shared space of knowledge.
This group wanted to show that our community is built on, with, and through connections with each other. When we start out at the bottom level, we are facing different ways because we haven't yet connected; however, as we move further up in our journey, we face each other.
The first image depicts a group that wanted to show the value of connections and the ways that different people come together. At the top of their structure is a sailor and a pirate; both love the sea but come from very different perspectives.
