The recent enactment of the Stop Campus Hazing Act (H.R. 5646 or “The Act”) aims to eliminate the practice of hazing on campus and ensure the safety, well-being, and dignity of all students. The Act outlines new regulations and enforcement procedures that we expect to be implemented immediately.
The Act, which became law on December 23, 2024, requires Trinity University include all hazing incidents that happen on campus in its Annual Security Report, develop a Campus Hazing Transparency Report, and develop a hazing policy statement and campus wide training program.
The Stop Campus Hazing Act amends what is commonly referred to as the Clery Act, or the disclosure of campus security policy and crime statistics. Colleges and universities must now include statistics for hazing incidents that were reported to campus security authorities or local law enforcement in their annual security reports.
What does this mean for me as a Trinity employee?
Effective January 1, 2025, all Trinity employees are now designated as Campus Security Authorities (CSAs).
CSAs play a key role in ensuring the safety of the TU community by delivering information to the necessary office, which in turn helps to ensure that the campus remains informed. When a CSA becomes aware of a crime that occurred on or around campus, they have an obligation under federal law to report the information to the Clery Compliance Coordinator.
As a result:
- All Trinity employees will be required to complete an annual virtual training course, Campus Security Authorities: Roles and Responsibilities.
- This course will be distributed via Workday Learning on Monday, March 10, 2025.
- All employees will have three weeks to complete the course, with completion required by Monday, March 31, 2025.
- All new hires will receive this course as part of their onboarding package of compliance training courses.
