It is incredible to reflect on the past semester and recognize how much we have grown through the HCAD program here at Trinity University. As the Second Year students prepare to begin their residencies, our class is finishing strong in the first semester of the program. The Fall has been filled with opportunities to build relationships with alumni, faculty, staff and colleagues. I know I speak for everyone when I say what an amazing experience it has been so far!
Although they are excited to get out and start their residencies, the Second Year students are laser focused on projects and case competitions. This Fall, the Class of 2017 sent two teams to the NAHSE Case Competition in Las Vegas and the Baylor Case Competition in Waco. Both teams performed well with the NAHSE team advancing into the semi finals and the Baylor team receiving best Q&A AQward. We continue to impress at any competition we participate in. This brings further national attention to Trinity’s HCAD program, something I am proud of. Some of the aforementioned projects include construction of a new facility, financial pro forma for an observational unit, physician compensation model, and system wide marketing initiative. The projects and competitions show the versatility of the students this program produces. Beyond that, the Second Year students have been excellent role models and guides around both Trinity and San Antonio.
The Class of 2018 is off to a great start! It was only a few months ago that a cohort of twenty-three students met for the first time with nothing in common except for the HCAD program. We first got together back in August by attending a meet and greet set up by the Second Year students. We quickly bonded through in class group work and activities outside of class. Without a doubt, this group brings an unrivaled diversity in thought and experience. Class discussion and project work are unlike anything I have experienced in undergrad and the working world. We continue to build relationships with each other that we all know will last a lifetime. As the semester wraps up, we are hard at work on our service line analysis and hospital system projects. We have thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on coursework, the facility visits and the many distinguished guest speakers who have come to share their wisdom and expertise. The alumni golf tournament went off without a hitch and gave students and alumni the chance to connect. We are looking forward to the upcoming ACHE and Preceptors' conferences in the Spring. I am excited to see what the rest of this program holds for our class and how it will challenge our beliefs about the health care industry.
As the President of the Class of 2018, I want to thank you on behalf of my colleagues for your continued support of this program. We are honored to have such an engaged alumni network and faculty, we wouldn’t be where we are today without you.
