Class of 2020 President Report
Updates from Taylor Miears, 2020 Class President

As the fall semester comes to an end, the second-year students wrapped up the on-campus portion of their studies and are already feeling nostalgic about their time at Trinity. Meanwhile, the first-year students were excited to finish their first semester and are looking forward to the year ahead. This semester has flown by and has also been full of engaging course material, assignments, and interactions that have further inspired our passions for the health care industry. We have all thoroughly enjoyed these past five months and are excited for what is still to come!

This fall, the second-year students competed in two case competitions. They competed in the NAHSE Case Competition in Orlando, Florida and the Robbins Institute Case Competition at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. The NAHSE team made it to the semi-finals out of 32 teams and the Baylor team placed third out of 11 teams. We are very proud of all the hard work they put in and how well they represented Trinity HCAD!

As they prepare for their residencies in January, they continue to work diligently on their final Capstone Projects. Each student was assigned two real-life projects for organizations around Texas. While challenging, they have been an excellent learning opportunity and have prepared the students for potential situations they may encounter in their residencies. They are appreciative of the time and effort that many of the alumni have spent helping them with these projects.

The Class of 2020 began the semester with a wonderful welcome from the second-year students and professors. While growing accustomed to San Antonio and life as graduate students, our class has grown into a family. As a class, we have learned about each others’ backgrounds, families, and experiences that have brought us to where we are today.

This has offered us the opportunity to use each others’ strengths to assist each other throughout our time in the program. Our unique experiences have allowed for engaging group discussions where diverse opinions are shared. We are so thankful that this program brought us together—it’s difficult to imagine not knowing one another!

Our semester has been filled with presentations, exams, and site visits—all of which have added significant value to our experiences. We completed our service line projects, system briefings, and community health needs assessments. We are privileged to be a part of such a prestigious program with a vibrant class culture that works together to teach us how to be great leaders.

Looking toward next semester, the first-year students are eager to begin case competitions, attend ACHE Congress, and prepare for Preceptors’ Conference. We recognize that we have so much to learn and look forward to continuing to grow and collaborate with the support of the Trinity alumni. We know this is only the beginning of a rewarding journey!

On behalf of the Classes of 2019 and 2020, I want to thank you for your continued support of the Trinity HCAD program. We greatly appreciate your continued involvement and engagement in all that we do. The alumni network and faculty continue to inspire and pave the way for those that come after us.

This program would not be the same without your support.  Please accept our heartfelt thank you!
