As we near the end of the spring semester at Trinity University, it is not as serene as one might think going into the summer season. With that being said, it is a time of great excitement and anticipation. Now that the second year students have left campus and are progressing further into their residencies, the first year students are ramping up and preparing diligently for Preceptors' Conference. I know my classmates and I are very eager to experience all that the Preceptors' Conference has to offer and we are looking forward to meeting all who attend.
Many things have occurred this semester and we as students have thoroughly enjoyed the trials the fast paced spring semester brings along with it. Ranging from in-depth business plan developments to national case competitions, our class has strived for excellence in everything we have done. The Cleveland Clinic Case competition, previously conducted by second year students in their residencies, has been shifted to the first year students who have taken this challenge head on. The results of our effort indeed paid off; three Trinity teams out of hundreds of teams across America were selected to move onto the quarter finals to compete face to face in Cleveland, Ohio. Although no team of ours ended up advancing to the finals, it is tremendously impressive that Trinity was the only program with more than two teams in the top sixteen quarter final. Additionally, our team that competed in the UAB case competition performed exceptionally well making it all the way to the finals against some very tough competition. Considering it was the first competition our students participated in, I believe that’s something we can hang our hat on. The case competition experiences provide great value to the students who participate in them and will help to develop the framework for in-depth thinking that all future administrators must possess.
I would like to thank all of the alumni for their support in raising funds for our class to be able to visit Chicago during the ACHE Congress. I speak for everyone when I say what an amazing experience this was for a young careerist. The exposure to the various topics discussed in the sessions was very valuable. I want to give a special thanks to those particular alumni who set aside their time to conduct mock interviews with the students; we are grateful to have alumni willing to devote their time to help prepare the students for Preceptors' Conference and are willing to give back to Trinity in that regard. I would also like to thank all of those who have given their time presenting to the class about their experiences within the healthcare industry. It is important to get your perspective on the steps you have taken in your careers so they can help shape our own paths.
As the President of the Class of 2017, I ask that you keep all of us in your hearts and minds as we venture into the first steps of our careers in healthcare. Again, thank you for all that you do, Trinity wouldn’t be the premier program without you!
