Sarah Burke, Ph.D.
- Professor Emerita , Modern Languages and Literatures
I have been teaching Russian language, literature, culture and art history for 45 plus years and will retire from Trinity on December 31, 2011. 38 of those years have been at Trinity. They have been 38 great years. I wish everyone could have the interesting life that I have had and will have!
My research began in literature, particularly poetry and the insanely difficult prose works of the Russian Aleksei Mikhailovich Remizov, but around 1978, I switched to my real passion which has been the history of and making of art. To that end I have made 14 plus trips to the USSR and then Russia with no end in sight. I almost feel like I am a citizen of St. Petersburg, Russia. It was there that I both studied art and met artists. In 2006, I traveled there to take a course in the Hermitage Art Museum on their Northern Silk Road collection.
