Investiture for Trinity University’s 19th President
Inauguration Ceremony for Danny J. Anderson set for Feb. 19

The inauguration of Trinity University President Danny J. Anderson will take place at 3 p.m., Feb. 19, 2016, with an investiture ceremony in Laurie Auditorium. The investiture ceremony is free and open to the public. No tickets are needed.

Anderson will be formally installed as Trinity's 19th president during a ceremony steeped in tradition and academic pageantry. During the investiture he will receive the symbols of the Office of the President, including the University mace with inscriptions depicting the history and liberal arts tradition of Trinity and the presidential medallion which replicates the University's seal on a chain of discs each bearing the name and dates of office of previous Trinity presidents. Delegates representing academic institutions from around the country will join the Trinity faculty, members of the Board of Trustees, and the greater Trinity community as participants in the official inauguration. The ceremony will include performances by the Trinity Chamber Singers and greetings from a variety of University and civic constituents, including District 8 City Councilman Ron Nirenberg, a Trinity alumnus, who will represent the City of San Antonio.

Anderson became president of Trinity University in June 2015. His vision for the University includes ensuring Trinity is recognized as the model of 21st century liberal arts and sciences education. Previously, he was dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Kansas. An award winning teacher and scholar of Mexican literature, Anderson is the recipient of a number of awards and fellowships, including the ING Award for Teaching Excellence; a W.T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence; and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship for University Teachers.

A native Texan, Anderson was born in Houston and lived most of his formative years in Rusk, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Austin College, and a master's and doctorate in Spanish from the University of Kansas.

Trinity will also extend the inauguration celebration to all alumni, parents, and friends unable to participate on campus by promoting a worldwide Tiger Pride Day on Friday, Feb. 19. The inauguration will be video streamed live over the Tiger Network. Everywhere in the world, Tigers are encouraged to wear maroon to show their #TigerPride and share it on social media.
