Spending Out Loud: Charlene Davis Champions Bold Budgeting Approach
As overspending rises, a Trinity expert endorses “loud budgeting” as a tool for financial discipline and cultural change

In an interview with WalletHub, Charlene Davis, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Business Administration in Trinity University's Michael Neidorff School of Business, explains that “loud budgeting” is a personal finance trend that encourages individuals to be open about their financial limits and vocal when they cannot afford to overspend.

According to a recent WalletHub survey, nearly one in five Americans exceed their monthly budgets. Loud budgeting can help people stay on track by promoting accountability and reducing the pressure to spend on luxuries they can't afford.

“If effectiveness is measured by follow-through and accountability in sticking with a specific spending approach and defined budget goals,” Davis says, “then yes, loud budgeting could yield improved results.”
