
Alumni from across the nation came together October 24-27 for a spirited celebration of school pride, rekindling old friendships and creating new memories at a series of events designed to showcase our vibrant community. From thrilling athletic competitions to nostalgic campus tours, this year's Alumni Weekend was packed with moments that reminded us why our alma mater continues to hold a special place in our hearts.
Alumni Weekend, Trinity University’s largest engagement event of the year, attracted more than 1,200 alumni and friends from seven decades and 35 states. Check out some of the highlights below, watch the recap video, and view photos from Alumni Weekend 2024.
Alumni Career Engagement (ACE) Presents Alumni College
Alumni Weekend 2024 featured a series of impactful workshops by Trinity’s Alumni Career Engagement team, offering career guidance and professional development. Michelle Jones ’98 led Harness Your Vitality & Get Unstuck, where participants learned to identify vital sources to explore potential career transitions with purpose and confidence. In Starting Your Own Business – Where to Begin?, Matt Reedy ’79 guided alumni through a series of business idea brainstorming techniques, baseline market considerations, and lean business plan creation. Certified financial planner Lauryn Williams hosted Earning Enough Income, leading discussions on essential financial wellness topics such as income, spending, budgeting, saving, and investing. Each session provided practical tools for alumni to elevate their careers and financial well-being.
Fiesta with the Faculty and Authors and Artisans Fair
A highlight of the festivities was the Authors and Artisans Fair, where the Trinity community showcased its exceptional talent. Attendees enjoyed exploring a diverse array of creative works, from captivating books to unique crafts, all created by talented alumni. The event was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the artistic and intellectual contributions of Trinity graduates and appreciate the rich creativity within our community. Trinity faculty and staff also gathered in the Ruth Taylor Courtyard to reconnect with alumni. Alumni relished the opportunity to share life and career updates with their mentors and reminisce on their time in the classroom.
Alumni Awards Ceremony
Trinity alumni, students, faculty, and staff came together on Friday night to honor eight Alumni Award recipients. The Alumni Awards Ceremony showcased how these incredible alumni are representing their alma mater in extraordinary ways through their remarkable careers and generous service to the University and their communities. Multicultural Brunch
The inaugural Multicultural Brunch brought together Trinity alumni and students for a meaningful exchange of experiences and insights. Hosted by Vice President for People, Culture, and Community Brandi P. Jones, Ph.D., the event created a welcoming space for alumni to connect with members of Trinity’s multicultural student organizations. Attendees enjoyed a lively gathering of music, food, and community, sharing stories of relatedness and strengthening bonds across class years.
Tiger Football Tailgate
Tiger Pride filled Prassel Lawn, the Multi-Sport Stadium, and the Lynd-Gardner Hospitality Suite for the Tiger Football Tailgate, sponsored by the Bengal Lancer Alumni Foundation. Live music by Havoc Wagon and Band of Bandits, plus tailgate food, drinks, and lawn games, energized alumni and their families as they reconnected with affinity groups. The celebration continued on the field as the Trinity Tigers prevailed over the Berry College Vikings in overtime by a score of 38-35 and the 2024 Athletics Hall of Fame Class was formally inducted.
Women’s Volleyball, Alumni Social, and Scrimmage
Over 50 Women’s Volleyball alumni gathered at Calgaard Gym to kick off the weekend, cheering the team to sweeps in their final regular-season homestand against 14th-ranked Southwestern on Friday, then Randolph-Macon and Concordia on Saturday. They celebrated Head Coach Julie Jenkins’ 40th season, honored the 1999 national runner-up team on Friday, and recognized volleyball parents and seniors on Saturday. Alumni brought energy to a friendly scrimmage, sharing their love of the sport across generations.
President’s All Alumni Reception
Alumni mixed and mingled in the Cube of the Center for the Sciences and Innovation before Alumni Association Board President Nadia Islam ’12 presented President Vanessa B. Beasley, Ph.D., with a check for $2,524,937.47 on behalf of the reunion classes. The Class of 1974 collected the greatest class-giving total, the Class of 1994 amassed the greatest number of attendees at Alumni Weekend, and the Class of 1989 accumulated the greatest percentage of class members who gave a gift. President Beasley sincerely thanked the reunion classes and gave a toast in their honor.
Block Party on Oakmont
Oakmont Court transformed into a lively homage to San Antonio’s rich rodeo culture for the ever-popular Block Party, with mouthwatering smells of walking tacos, sausage, and other festive foods wafting through the air. Attendees donned Block Party-exclusive Trinity cowboy hats as they danced the night away underneath the stars to live music from Ben McPeak and a band featuring former Alumni President James Sanders ’98. Specially brave and daring cowboys and cowgirls tested their riding skills on a mechanical bull, and a real live Texas longhorn even made an appearance!
