Hiring Student Workers for Summer 2026
Review timeline and reminders about the hiring process

It is almost time to hire student workers for Summer 2026! Before beginning the hiring process in Workday, please review all the updated dates & reminders below. 

Student Hiring Updates: 

  • All current student workers for the 2025-2026 academic year will be terminated after Sunday, May 17. This process will be completed by HR on Monday, May 18.
  • In order for Human Resources to complete the termination process and update our records, we ask that all managers wait to initiate summer student hires in Workday until Tuesday, May 19, at the earliest.
  • Student summer employment dates will be 5/18/26 to 8/23/26.
  • Please note that just as in previous years, students can officially begin working their summer positions on Monday, May 18, and will still be able to enter time despite Tuesday, May 19, being the earliest date supervisors can initiate their hires in Workday. Summer student hires can be backdated to 5/18/26 when entering into Workday on Tuesday.

Important Reminders:

  • Open student positions are advertised on Handshake. Please fill out the Google Form to have a position posted on Handshake.
  • Please be sure to select "Student Summer Assistant" as the job profile when hiring for all summer student positions.
  • For assistance with the hiring process, please refer to the “Workday: Hire a Student Worker Article.” 
  • Student employees must reside in Texas while working; out-of-state employment is not permitted as outlined in the Student Employment Policy & Procedures.
  • Any new student that has never worked on campus before will still need to stop by the HR office (Northrup Hall room 210) on their first day to show their original I-9 documents in order to be authorized to work on campus.
