Institute of Spirituality and Health of Houston: Together After the Flood Virtual Support Group

In the aftermath of a disaster, healing begins with connection. Together After the Flood is an open, virtual support group specifically designed for anyone affected by the recent flooding in central Texas. This group provides a compassionate space, guided by experienced facilitators, where individuals can share experiences, process emotions, find solace, and learn practical mind-body skills to support their emotional and physical well-being. Each session blends sharing and togetherness with evidence-based practices and skills such as breathwork, mindfulness, and grounding exercises to help participants process stress and trauma. Drop in as you're able; all are welcome. Thursdays | 6-7 p.m. CT | Virtual via Zoom

BetterHelp

Modern Therapy

Modern Therapy is offering free therapy to those impacted by the flooding, specifically the tragedy at Camp Mystic. “We are here to hold space and sit in the trenches with you during this time,” a statement from the organization’s website reads. You can reach out through their website or call at 281-524-2489.

Prime Counseling

Prime Counseling is offering free therapy and mental health support to individuals and families impacted by the flooding. “Our therapists are here to help you process, stabilize, cry, scream, whatever you need. The National Child Traumatic Stress Network - After a Crisis: Helping Young Children Heal

Young children, toddlers, and preschoolers know when bad things happen, and they remember what they have been through. After a scary event, we often see changes in their behavior. They may cry more, become clingy and not want us to leave, have temper tantrums, hit others, have problems sleeping, become afraid of things that didn’t bother them before, and lose skills they previously mastered. Changes like these are a sign that they need help. Here are some ways you can help them.

Free Course - Disaster and Preventive Psychiatry: Protecting Health and Fostering Community Resilience

In our world, a range of disasters, including climate-related disasters, pandemics, and mass violence are occurring with increased frequency and severity. You may have experienced living through multiple disasters in your community. This course will walk through the fundamentals of, as well as interventions in, disasters. This course will cover topics such as: the basic concepts in disaster and preventive psychiatry, psychological and behavioral effects of disasters, risk and vulnerability to disasters, psychological first aid, risk and crisis communication, leadership consultation and preparedness for disasters. Asynchronous eight-hour course. Free of charge.
