Solution Development

In the Fall, teams of 2 to 4 students will form and begin the journey of identifying, exploring, and solving a specific problem that they select relating to healthcare.  Teams are challenged to: Understand key insights relating to their problems from a human-centered approach; Ideate to identify meaningful and creative concepts that could address their problems; and, Develop their solutions through processes of experimentation, iteration, and business model development.

 

Team Entries and Selection

In late November 2023 (Date TBD), teams will submit their entries for their innovative healthcare solutions.  In December, entries will be evaluated, with a select number of teams invited to further develop and pitch their concepts in the Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition's Bracket Round in February 2024 (Dates TBD).  In the weeks leading up to the Bracket Round, those selected teams will receive individualized coaching from healthcare innovation mentors, providing meaningful guidance and opportunities to further iterate their solutions from their initial entries and advance their concepts as they prepare to make their pitch.

 


Pitch Competition - Bracket Round

All selected teams’ concepts will be grouped into four broad problem categories.  The pitch competition’s first round is a “best in category” pitch round and will take place across two days in a series of bracket competitions, with each team competing against fellow concepts in its problem category.

 Day 1: February 2024 (Date TBD)

Morning

  • Bracket #1 for "Best-in-Category" pitch presentations and judge deliberation
  • Winning team selected to participate in the Healthcare PRISm finals

Afternoon

  • Bracket #2 for "Best-in-Category" pitch presentations and judge deliberation
  • Winning team selected to participate in the Healthcare PRISm finals
 Day 2: February 2024 (Date TBD)

Morning

  • Bracket #3 for "Best-in-Category" pitch presentations and judge deliberation
  • Winning team selected to participate in the Healthcare PRISm finals

Afternoon

  • Bracket #4 for "Best-in-Category" pitch presentations and judge deliberation
  • Winning team selected to participate in the Healthcare PRISm finals
  • Results for each Bracket and "Best-in-Category" winner announced after 5 p.m. (CST)

 

Pitch Competition - Elevate Round

The remaining teams not selected as “Best-in-Category” from the Bracket Round will be invited to continue by iterating and pitching their concepts once again the following week in the Elevate Round, during which teams will have 5 minutes to make their pitch and an abbreviated Q&A session with judges.  One team will be selected from the Elevate Round to advance to the Healthcare PRISm finals the next day.

Pitch Competition - Finals

A week after the Bracket Round, the four teams that were selected as “Best-in-Category” as well as the team selected in the Elevate Round will compete in the Healthcare PRISm finals.  After the finalists have presented and the judges have deliberated, the selected winners of the competition will be announced.

Pitch Presentations Structure

  “Best-in-Category” Bracket Round

 First Round: February 2024 (Date TBD)

Participating teams will be scheduled to present in 30-minute intervals, including:

 

  • 5 minutes for the team to virtually present their concept using their pitch deck
  • 10 minutes to respond to judges' questions
  • 10 minutes for the team to "workshop" their concept (the judges will provide guidance, suggestions, and considerations regarding the team's concept and potential iterative steps to explore)
  • 5 minutes for judging deliberations and transitions

      “Best-in-Show” Finals

     Third Round: February 2024 (Date TBD)

    Advancing teams will be scheduled to present in 20-minute intervals, including:

    • 5 minutes for the team to virtually present their concept using their pitch deck
    • 10 minutes to respond to judges' questions
    • 5 minutes for transitions

        Elevate Round

       Second Round: February 2024 (Date TBD)

      Participating teams will be scheduled to present in 10-minute intervals, including:

      • 5 minutes for the team to virtually present their concept using their pitch deck
      • 3 minutes to respond to judges' questions
      • 2 minutes for transitions
