Trinity’s alternative spring break program, Tiger Breaks, allows students to travel and explore different cultures, conduct service, and examine social justice issues.
Components of the student-led Tiger Breaks program include direct service, reflection activities, alumni engagement, and cultural exploration.
Students learn about cultural heritage, history, demographics, and current events, both in sessions before the break and during the immersion. After the trip, students gather together for a reception to look back and reflect on their experience. Students can even get academic credit for participation in the program.

Tiger Breaks in Action
In New Orleans in 2019, students explored environmental justice by petitioning against a pipeline that would destroy historical sites and making signs for protestors involved in the grassroots movement.
For the Oklahoma program in 2019, students met with Oklahoma Writers Hall of Fame author Rilla Askew, who explained Black Wall Street and the Tulsa Race Riots.
Students volunteered in 2019 in El Paso with the Annunciation House, a nonprofit organization that supports migrants who have recently been released from ICE detention.
In Tiger Breaks’ first trip to New Orleans in 2017, students gave service to Green Light New Orleans, The Green Project, Groundwork New Orleans, and the Lower 9th Ward Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development.
