Gary Seighman, D.M.A.

Dr. Gary Seighman is Director of Choral Activities at Trinity University. Under his direction, Trinity’s choirs have gained regional and national accolades with invited conference performances, tours throughout the United States and abroad, and innovative collaborations. A charismatic and passionate artist, Seighman is highly engaged as a clinician, guest conductor, and speaker. His collegiate choirs have performed for the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention, the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO), and College Music Society (CMS) National Conference. 

Seighman has traveled to East Asia five times between 2015-2019 where he conducted for the Peking University Summer Opera Program, led graduate masterclasses in Taiwan, and guest conducted throughout China. In 2019, he served artist residencies in the U.K. by leading masterclasses in London, Cambridge, Liverpool, and Dublin. Just prior, he was chorusmaster for the 2018 Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt and Vienna, Austria. Seighman has been a guest faculty artist with Manhattan Concert Productions for whom he conducted Mozart’s Requiem at Carnegie Hall in June 2022 with the New York Chamber Orchestra. Seighman will return to Carnegie Hall in February 2023 to conduct the National Treble Honor Choir.

Seighman has helped introduce many new works to the repertoire including joint world-premieres and collaborations with Cantus, Chanticleer, New York Polyphony, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Dale Trumbore, Dan Forrest, Andrew Smith, Chihchun Chi-sun Lee, and Yvonne Freckmann, among others. In Fall of 2021 Seighman conducted the TU Chamber Singers and Sinfonia Spirituoso chamber orchestra based in California on a program of French Baroque music featuring Michel Richard Delalande’s De profundis. Other recent conducting engagements include the Arkansas Intercollegiate All-State Choir, various TMEA and TPSMEA region choirs, the Children’s Chorus of San Antonio, Mozart’s ‘Great’ Mass in C minor, and Haydn’s Creation. Seighman has over a dozen publications in book chapters and peer-reviewed journals and presented over thirty interest sessions at state music educator conferences around the country. 

Having previously served as music director at the historic Church of the Ascension & St. Agnes in Washington, DC, Seighman is equally at home working with professional choirs, youth choruses, and everything in between. Seighman has served on the boards of the National Collegiate Choral Organization, the Children’s Chorus of San Antonio, and the DC/MD Choral Director's Association where he was also editor of the state newsletter. He is also a regular panelist and grant evaluator for the Texas Commission on the Arts in Austin, TX. Always eager to explore new artistic and creative outlets, Seighman is signed as a model/actor with Avant Agency and has been featured in print, internet, radio, and television.
