Parking Updates for the 2024-25 Academic Year
Navigating construction and alternative parking solutions

As we prepare for the start of a new academic year, we want to inform you about important parking updates due to the ongoing construction of the Welcome Center, Event Hall, and Coates Esplanade.  These updates are crucial for planning your daily commute and ensuring a smooth start to the semester.

Parking Lot Closures

During this year's campus construction of the Welcome Center and Event Hall, faculty and staff will not be able to access:

  • Lot F: Located between the Library and Dicke Hall
  • Lot H: Located northeast of the Library and east of Lot F
Alternative Parking Options

Although there is no plan to add new parking spaces during the construction project, the following spaces have been identified as alternative parking areas:

Alamo Stadium is open Monday through Friday. Please note on SAISD football game days, the parking lot is barricaded at 2 p.m., and vehicles must be removed by 5 p.m.

Laurie Auditorium's orange level is typically designated for student parking, but faculty and staff can park there during construction.

Prassel Garage is located on the south campus near the mail center and facilities services. While it is the least accessible to upper campus buildings, the top two levels usually have 80-120 empty spaces available daily during business hours.

Construction projects inevitably cause inconvenience, particularly regarding parking. Please know that while parking will be affected, the impact of the Welcome Center construction is expected to be less than what we experienced with the Halsell/Dicke project. The construction of Coates Esplanade is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2025 and will be celebrated with a community event, while the Welcome Center and Event Hall are expected to be finished by Summer 2026.
