Overview
Students who study French will gain mastery of the language, knowledge of the culture, and an understanding of the topics in literature through the centuries. The curriculum includes the exploration of French civilization, French cinema, and other specialized topics such as literary methodologies and major French authors.

Candidates for a baccalaureate degree must fulfill the requirements for a major as listed in the courses of study bulletin. The courses of study bulletin is the official source of information regarding degree requirements, academic policies, and academic majors and minors at Trinity University.

Pathways Curriculum

Students must complete the Pathways Curriculum in order to receive a baccalaureate degree. The Pathways Curriculum has six curricular requirements, and three optional elements that provide the foundation in the liberal arts and sciences for all the bachelor’s degrees awarded by Trinity University. Through these requirements, students acquire the necessary skills and disciplinary perspectives to navigate complex questions at Trinity and in their post-graduate lives.
Language
Learn French from the elementary to advanced levels, as well as grammar and conversation and composition.
Literature
Study major works of French literature both from the past and in the present, including North African literature.
Cinema
Examine the history, meaning, and culture behind a variety of French films from the 1930s to the present, as well as the history of French cinema.

Faculty don’t just bring French culture to the classroom—they connect students to real French-speaking communities around the world, providing opportunities for internships and study abroad in these areas of the globe.
Student Opportunities
Life beyond the language.
Students are welcome to apply for the honors program within the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.
Opportunities for independent research are available through the department and the Undergraduate Research in the Arts & Humanities.
The French program makes it possible for majors and minors to study in another country immersed in language and cultural studies.
Internships, with study abroad opportunities in French-speaking communities, allow students to immerse themselves in the language of their choosing.
Students can also join Pi Delta Phi, the French National Honor Society or the French Club.
