Undergraduate Research

Research, build, and explore in top-notch facilities and field opportunities

Undergraduate research is central to Trinity's approach to STEM education. Each year hundreds of Trinity students participate in research projects, often supported by internal and external grants, alongside professors who are gifted teachers and accomplished scientists and scholars. The interdisciplinary nature of Trinity's curriculum exposes students to the excitement of discovery and encourages entrepreneurship.

Trinity offers many students the opportunity to research full-time under the close mentorship of faculty, during a 10-week summer program. During the program, most students receive a stipend and free housing. Some students also receive one tuition credit free of charge. Students are supported by individual faculty grants or by one of Trinity's research programs.
 

Geology From Above

Geology from above is a story about how Trinity Professor Dr. Ben Surpless lead a team of students from the Keck Geology Consortium to Southern Utah to study fault lines in a unique and innovative way using drones. Using drones in geosciences research is a new tool that will allow geologists to reach and study areas of earth they didn't think was possible.

 

A Thirst for Humanitarian Aid

In one of the deadliest counties in Texas, Trinity University Engineers partnered with a non-profit to build a life saving device in order to help bring relief to the Humanitarian Crisis at the Texas border.es research is a new tool that will allow geologists to reach and study areas of earth they didn't think was possible.

Scholarships and Awards

Trinity awards financial aid and scholarships specifically for STEM students as well as STEM department scholarships and financial awards. The award programs encourage research and innovation in all STEM fields and interdisciplinary studies.

LSAMP Scholars Program
The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program offers a transformative undergraduate STEM education to select socially and economically marginalized scholars majoring in a STEM subject.

TWIST
Trinity Women in Science & Technology welcomes all students, staff, and faculty interested in the field of science and technology.

Facilities

STEM programs are housed in the Center for the Sciences and Innovation and Marrs McLean Hall. Hubs of Trinity's scientific research, these inviting and spacious facilities feature state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories outfitted with new equipment and technology.

Center for the Sciences and Innovation (CSI)
Trinity’s integrated, 300,000-square-foot science and engineering complex contains glass-walled laboratories, classrooms, and offices that put science on display. CSI houses the biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering science, neuroscience, and psychology departments, as well as the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Marrs McClean
Marrs McLean Hall houses the departments of physics and astronomy, geosciences, and mathematics. This facility supports research in the geosciences field with outstanding laboratory and computing facilities, including a 3-D projection system, and state-of-the-art field equipment, including surveying, GPS, and geophysical systems.
