Financial Aid Extension Request
Students receiving institutional financial aid (Trinity merit scholarships and/or Trinity grants) are eligible to receive up to eight (8) semesters of financial assistance. Under limited circumstances, students may request an extension of financial aid for their 9th semester and/or 5th year of undergraduate enrollment.
This request is due no later than the last day of classes in the student's 7th semester.
Note: Aid for students who have a reduced course load accommodation from Student Accessibility Services is automatically extended up to one academic year. Students in this circumstance should consult with their financial aid advisor once registration of the 9th semester has taken place. There is no need to submit an extension request.
- To begin this process:
- Schedule an Appointment with your Financial Aid Counselor
- Submit a personal statement to your Financial Aid Counselor prior to your meeting; Be sure to include your rationale for the request—obstacles that led to the need for enrollment beyond 8 semesters to complete your Trinity degree requirements.
- Be prepared to address the following appeal requirements:
- Major Declaration: Major must be declared by the end of the 4th semester (as evidenced on the degree audit).
- Credit hour progress towards graduation: earned 28 credits before the 3rd semester; 58 credits before the 5th semester; 98 credits before the 7th semester; or demonstrated efforts to remediate credit deficits such as summer courses (as evidenced on the unofficial transcripts).
- Graduation requirements: provide evidence of consistently enrolling in the courses determined in consultation with their academic advisor(s) (as evidenced in the advising notes).

Student Consent to Release Educational Records
Trinity University complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, as amended. This Act was designed to protect students' rights by maintaining the privacy of educational records, establishing the rights of students to review their education records, and providing guidelines for the correction of inaccurate or misleading information. Upon enrollment in college, the rights afforded under FERPA are transferred from the parent to the individual student. Therefore, it is important to note that in many circumstances, Trinity University may not be permitted to release information about the student record. Although certain exceptions apply, under FERPA, grades, financial information, and other education records are not to be disclosed to parents or anyone else outside the University without a student's prior written permission. Third party proxy access granted through Workday allows students to grant specific access to chosen third party users.
Students wishing to grant further educational record access to a parent or third party must complete either 1) the task on the "Additional Data" tab located on the student profile or 2) by completing the Student Consent to Release Educational Records e-form and submit to the Office of the Registrar. For option 1, to authorize FERPA rights/access directly from your student record, click on the Additional Data tab on your student profile. Then, click Edit and follow the instructions to complete the process. Either process (1 or 2 above) allows Trinity University officials to discuss or share educational records with those designated, upon request.
Trinity University’s official FERPA policy, which defines the process by which the University will protect the privacy and records access rights that apply to records maintained by or for the University about its current and former students in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”), may be viewed in our official policy portal.
Once students have committed to Trinity University, they will have the opportunity to complete and submit a FERPA form for all approved representatives. This process takes place during onboarding and can be retracted at any time by the student.
