The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is assisted by two Associate Provosts, each a tenured faculty member, charged with overseeing a portfolio of responsibilities to support the mission and goals of the University. 

Associate Provost Roles and Responsibilities

Associate Provosts serve as strategic thought-partners to and lead special projects at the direction of the Provost. Within their respective areas of focus, the Associate Provosts provide leadership, support, and oversight to offices within Academic Affairs. Associate Provosts serve as members of the Provost’s Council, alongside the Provost, Deans, and Faculty Senate Chair.

Associate Provost: Faculty Success

Dr. Wilson Terrell Jr. supports the Provost in carrying out the University’s teaching and learning mission by:

  • Shepherding shared governance structures and processes, including the Academic Faculty Assembly, the University Curriculum Council, the Graduate Commission, the Faculty Development Committee, and the Commission on Tenure and Promotion.
  • Coordinating faculty recruitment and hiring in collaboration with deans and department chairs.
  • Collaborating with Human Resources for faculty hiring, appointments, and record-keeping.
  • Supporting academic deans, department chairs, and individual faculty members in all matters related to development, evaluation, and promotion and tenure.
  • Organizing New Faculty Orientation, working alongside the Collaborative for Learning and Teaching.
  • Supervising the selection process for the Z. T. Scott Faculty Fellowship, Murchison term professorships, the Piper Professor nomination, and other faculty awards.
  • Providing strategic leadership for the Collaborative for Learning and Teaching and the Center for International Engagement
